April 2003 - Palma

We have now completed 2 days of racing and done 4 races. After a week of cracking weather and training a low pressure has moved in and it is now cold and raining. Yesterday we had light winds and lots of fog, we only got 1 race in. We finished 14th which we were not very happy with. We got caught on the wrong side of a windshift and rounded the first mark around 23rd. We then made a good recovery but 14th was as far as we could get.

Today was stronger winds off the shore, so it was very gusty and shifty. We won the first race after rounding the windward mark in 10th we were very quick downwind and rounded the next mark in 3rd then got the kiwi and Japanese over the next two legs. The next race also went well we rounded the windward mark 1st then went very fast downwind and were 100 metres ahead by the end. In the last race we made a very good start but missed a few shifts on the upwind and downwind, we finished 7th so a very good day in all. We are now 4th overall the Portuguse are first with the Spanish 2nd and French in 3rd, the points are however very close and we are not far from the leaders but also close to the people behind so we just need top keep our heads down and stay consistent.

There is more wind and rain forecast for tomorrow possible too much to race. We will make sure we get lots of carbohydrate in and an early night so we are ready for a big day! For full results go to www.isaf.org
