June 2004
We have had a hugely busy but successful few months. We have
competed in 3 international events, and won a medal in each.
We took Gold at the Princess Sofia, bronze at Hyeres regatta
and a bronze at the 470 World championships. This has been
the most consistent in the fleet so we are obviously very
pleased, next week we have our last event before the Olympic
games, the 470 European championships in Germany.
There are still definite aspects of our sailing we need to
improve on before the Olympics, but with the training time
we have in Athens we are confident we can tie up the loose
ends. We used our Olympic boat at the Princess sofia trophy
which we won then switched back to our older boat for the
next two so we don't give the Olympic boat too much use.
On top of our good results another huge boost to our campaign
has been signing up with Panasonic not only have they provided
us with money but also equipment that will aid our training.
The partnership has worked very well with both parties getting
a huge amount from it.
The trip to Hyeres and the World championships was very long
and it was a real test as to how well we could stay focused
on the job. It is easier now however to push out longer training
sessions and trips away without getting stale in the last
6 months before the Olympics, the ultimate goal is fast approaching
and at the end of each day you want to feel as though another
improvement has been made. We are very fortunate in the fact
that Hamish (coach) and us share a very clear vision of where
we need to get to in order to win a gold in Athens, this is
making our training very efficient. We are all looking forward
to getting out to Athens and getting out on the water to put
our ideas into practise.
