March 2005
Since the Olympics we have purposely taken
a large break from 470 sailing. We wanted to use the chance
to broaden our horizons a bit with other projects and opportunities,
many of which we hope will help us when we get started in
the 470 again. We also took a break to make sure when we got
back into a 470 we would be very hungry and motivated.
We have now put together a programme for 2005, our priority
is the San Francisco world championships in August. We have
won silver and bronze medals in the past so to win a gold
would be fantastic. Realistically this is an extremely tough
goal, San Francisco has notoriously tough conditions that
we will have to master and there are many tough competitors
that will all be gunning for the same goal.
In June, before the World championships we have the Europeans
in Poland, we will be defending our title so want to be well
prepared to put up a good fight.
We want to use 2005 as a time to try new things, we have decided
to reduce the number of international events and do more sailing
from the new National sailing center in Weymouth focusing
on the conditions we expect in San Francisco. This is going
to cause us to slip down the world rankings but having been
at no1 at the beginning of the year this is not something
we are concerned by.
Our first event back is going to be a National ranking event
at Hayling Island in May we will be slightly rusty at this
point but expect to be making quick gains from then till the
Europeans as we become more race sharp.
We have just had the website updated by WNW
Design and have also joined forces with new sponsor VOLVO
and look forward to having them on our side moving forward
to 2008. |
