November 2005
We have now finished all our international
events and trainings for 2005. This year was a quiet year
for us as we tried to use the post Olympics year to do some
other sailing and activities. We still managed to participate
in a significant amount of training, enough to maintain our
good international form. We finished 2nd overall at the Open
European championships behind the Argentinean team, Javier
Conte and Juan De La Fuente. This meant we were European
champions retaining our title for a second year, which was
a great feeling. The World Championships were in San Francisco
during August. It was a windy and cold event with incredibly
strong tides. The Australian team of Nathan Wilmot and Malcolm
Page dominated the event winning with two races to go. We
finished in Silver, again we were pleased but disappointed
not to have pushed Wilmot and Page for the Gold. They sailed
extremely well, and we made a few mistakes in the first few
days that left us with far too much to do if we were ever
going to put pressure on them.
The silver at the worlds does mean it is
now over two years since we finished outside the top 3 in
an international event. We believe this consistency has come
from a number of things, firstly we are fast through the
conditions without a weakness so we can often recover from
bad starts. Also, our teamwork has improved and we have a
good fighting spirit to get us through the bad days. We know
this record is not going to last forever, one day we will
have a bad event, but it is still nice for now.
After the World championships we had a fascinating
trip to China to visit the city Qingdao where the sailing
will be held at the Olympics. We thought it was great place
a really interesting culture and very friendly people. As
expected the wind was very light but it was sailable. It
is great seeing the venue so early to start coming up with
ideas on what to work on and it helps the imagination. One
thing is for sure I don’t think the Chinese are going
to have the same panic as the Greeks had in the last six
months before Athens, everything seemed well on its way to
being complete already!
Looking forward to 2006 everything is going
to hot up, we are training in the UK and Palma, Majorca through
to April when we will compete in the Princess Sofia Trophy.
The European Championships are in Hungary during June. In
August the first pre Olympic regatta will be held at the
venue, our World Championships also held in China will immediately
follow this regatta. The 2006 racing season ends with a newly
organized international event at the Weymouth and Portland
Sailing academy (venue of London 2012 sailing).
We are also looking to tie down our sponsorship
agreements through to 2008, giving the commitment both parties
want. If you are interested in meeting and discussing how
you and your business can be involved in our sailing please
email to arrange a meeting.
Thank you for your support
