September 2003 - World Championships
Well lets start with the good news,
NICK ROGERS & JOE GLANFIELD HAVE BEEN SELECTED FOR THE
OLYMPIC GAMES!!
This is absolutely fantastic news for us, we now have a guarenteed
place at the Olympics and 11 months to prepare which will
massively increase our chances of a gold medal.
We finished 10th at the world championships 20 places ahead
of the next british boat Graham Vials/ Bevis Field. Despite
this being lower then where we were hoping to come, our successful
summer and the massive gap between us and the other British
made the selection committee decide on selecting us early.
We made a poor start to the championship coming 27th overall
after 2 races, we made a steady recovery through the regatta
but not enough to challenge the leaders.
The 470 fleet is very up and down at the moment we had the
most consistent summer in the world with a 4th, 2nd, 10th
at the major events.
We will spend this winter working on finding more consistency
and make a program that will work on techniques important
in Athens, and one that will make sure we peak at this time
as well. When we have worked this program out I will post
it on the website along with our goals. For the next month
we will do very little sailing, we will have a break, do some
work wth sponsors and make a program with our coach.
I would like to take this opportunity also to say a massive
thank you to all our sponsors, who have been amazing in helping
us attain our goals.
The next year is going to be exciting! |
